SUNCORP ADVENTURE
Five players from Coolum Beach Walking Football Club played a whirlwind demonstration match against a team from Ballina, during the halftime break of the Socceroos v New Zealand match last week. Full story here

RECORD TURN OUT
An excellent turnout tonight with probably a record number of players since we started.
In the SOCIAL game it was Pink v Yellow with excellent passing and played in the true spirit of Walking Football. New player Ian Jackson was voted Player of the Week by last weeks winner Vicki.
The COMPETITIVE comp featured three sides. The Yellow Bibs with three Walkaroos in the side were just too good, easily sweeping aside the competition. Phil Harrison was the standout with a near perfect performance and received the Player of the Week medal from last week’s winner Jesse.

RSL CUP
On a magnificent Sunshine Coast winter day, FIVE Coolum Beach walking football teams competed in the inaugural RSL CUP. Having scraped through to the finals by the skin of their teeth, the SKY WALKERS edged past the unbeaten GREEN BRIGADE in the Semi Final then had the cheek to win the final on penalties against the highly fancied WHITE WALKERS with local cult figure Jesse Davis scoring the winning penalty.
More importantly, $400 was raised by players and was donated afterwards to the Peregian-Coolum RSL Sub Branch mental health program for armed services veterans. A great day was had by all.

COOLUM BEACH INTERNATIONALS
Four Coolum Beach Walking Football regulars represented the AUSTRALIA Over 50 side at the World Walking Football Club Championships held in Florence, ITALY. Mark Ridings, Brian Tindall, Jason Thistleton and Phil Harrison joined other players from all around Australia to play in the World Championships that included teams from Sweden, Italy, England, France, Wales and Angola to name a few. Although not coming home with the winners cup, they enjoyed a once in a life time experience to represent the Green and Gold of Australia on foreign soil. Well done lads - you did us proud.

MARQUEE SIGNING
COOLUM BEACH WALKING FOOTBALL were very happy to take delivery of a custom made 3 x 3 marquee on Monday night - kindly donated and sponsored by local MP Dan Purdie. Dan even took some time out of his busy schedule to have a hit out with the players. A big THANK YOU to Dan and his team for this generous donation.

WHITE WALKERS TRIUMPH
The inaugural COOLUM WALKING FOOTBALL tournament involving teams from Brisbane, Ballina and Sunshine Coast was played on 11 June 2002 in perfect conditions.
The Coolum Beach Mixed Social team (The White Walkers) took out the Group B trophy winning the final in a tense Penalty Shoot Out against Two Left Feet ( an all female team made up of ex-Matilda’s).
The Walkaroos (who will soon represent Australia at an international WF tournament in Florence, Italy) overcame a plucky Coolum Green Team in the final to take home the Group A trophy.
A big thank you to the Coolum Beach Baptist Church for perfectly preparing the grounds and running the BBQ and the Coolum/Peregian RSL sub branch for hosting drinks and presentations in their clubrooms afterwards.

CPR TRAINING
Ten volunteers from Coolum Beach Walking Football gave up their time to attend a CPR Training Course in Maroochydore hosted by National First Aid Institute. The training was funded by a Councillor Suarez Discretionary Grant via the Sunshine Coast Council.

WINNERS ARE GRINNERS
Coolum Beach Walking Football took three teams to the QUEENSLAND UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (QUT) Walking Football Tournament held in Brisbane to play in the Over 50, Over 60 and Mixed Social divisions.
The Over 60s came away with the trophy for their division finishing ahead of rival teams from Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Ballina and Central Coast. The Over 60s were unbeaten over the day, conceding NO goals thanks to some great goalkeeping by Roger Knowles.

IN THE BEGINNING......
Back on Monday the 5th of November 2018, approximately 20 Sunshine Coast pioneers answered the call from Alan Templeton of Football Queensland to try out the latest mature age sport sweeping the United Kingdom - Walking Football. Whilst the walking version of the world game wasn't for everyone, the majority met again on the following Monday and slowly but steadily, grew the number of participants over the years to create one of the largest Walking Football groups in Australia.
